Pain Management – the Natural way

So you’re experiencing some pain. Is it in your joints? Back? Muscle pain or just ache all over? Is it a type of Arthritis? You must just be getting old, right? WRONG! Pain, of any kind, is a symptom of something going on beneath the surface. We experience pain because we have inflammation but we get inflammation as a response by the body telling us something is wrong and we need to fix it. More often than not, a high amount of inflammation in the body is a direct result of our diet. If you continue to eat acidic food, such as bread, meat, dairy, etc., our body then turns to an acidic state and we become prone to disease. So instead of taking some aspirin (which is very hard on the stomach) try changing your diet first. Sometimes it’s really that simple.

Avoid: red meat (beef, pork), cows milk (try almond or soy instead), white bread products (wheat free would be best), citrus fruits (oranges, grapefruit), processed foods, and certain vegetables (these get more specific depending on where the pain is).

Eat a balanced diet of 80:20 alkaline to acidic foods (pH scale). This contains good quality, clean foods that won’t promote inflammation in the body. Try to do what you can for exercise, swimming seems to be one of the best forms, as it doesn’t put much strain on the body.
As for natural supplements for pain management, again it gets very specific depending on the condition. MSM is a natural anti-inflammatory that is very effective in relieving pain, especially in arthritis patients. Curcumin is another major anti-inflammatory, but can be a little more pricey. Take a good quality fish oil with over 1000mg of EPA. NEM (natural eggshell membrane) is a newer product that relieves joint pain in 7-10 days. Please note these are just merely suggestions, talk to a health care practitioner to find the right supplement for you.

If this sounds like you and you’d like to learn more about natural pain management, give me a call. We’ll identify the underlying condition, and work to help improve your quality of life.
